Small Business Saturday 2023 FAQ
Can I exchange my tail from Small Business Saturday?
No, tails purchased on Small Business Saturday (except MISPRINTS) cannot be exchanged, but can be returned for a refund.
MISPRINT tails are final sale items and not eligible for return.
What about final sale items?
Final sale items are not eligible for return or exchange. The following items will be final sale items during our SBS sale: Misprint Tails (Signature & Discovery) & Mystery Octavia Circlet
If I bought items in several different orders, can I combine shipping?
Whoops, I meant to order fins/a different size. Can I make this changes?
Because the tails in the SBS sale have already been made, we can not accommodate size or fin changes.
Can I sell my tail before it ships?
For many years we have allowed folks to sell tails that have not shipped to give those who may have missed out on a tail a chance to own their dream design as well as give original buyers the option to re-home a tail for a variety of reasons. In order to keep offering this option as our company grows we have a couple of reminders and changes to our policy of selling tails that have not shipped.
- There is a $35 fee for changing addresses if transferring the ownership of an order. Change fees that must be paid within 30 days of processing a change of ownership.
- Only the shipping address in the order will change. All contact information will remain the same so the shipping notification and all other order updates will be sent to the original email on file.
- If there is additional shipping incurred due to the change in address, the original buyer will be responsible for these charges and an invoice will be sent to the original email on file for the order.
- We will only communicate with the original buyer regarding an order. Original buyers are welcome to CC the new buyer in any email communication so they stay in the loop but we will not be able to provide order updates, sizing changes, or other order specific information to a third party.
- Size changes are only avilable for pre-order tails while orders in production are permitted within 30 days and requests must come from the original buyer.
- There is a $35 fee for changing sizes while orders are in production regardless of what stage of production an order is in. Change fees must be paid within 30 days of receiving your change fee invoice.
- Size exchanges for pre-orders tails are offered within 7 days of delivery but are only eligible if you are the original buyer of an order. We will not be offering size exchanges after a tail is delivered for orders sold to another mer prior to shipping.
Finally, the Finfolk team does not get involved with third party sales or the sale of items between members of the community for liability reasons. Selling an order and changing the address is done at the customer's own risk.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! We offer Shop Pay on eligible orders that allows customers to break the order up into 4 payments. This is only available for orders over $50 shipping to United States addresses.
Payment options through Shop Pay Installments, are subject to an eligibility check and are provided by these lending partners. Options depend on your purchase amount, and a down payment may be required. Rates from 0%-36% APR. State notices to consumers may be viewed here.
Another option is to check-out Paypal financing options that again may vary based on elligibility. More information be be found here
The card on file for an order is canceled. What should I do?
If you can no longer access a card used to place an order, please email the team asap so that we can make a note of this in your order. If a refund is processed for a card that is no longer valid and you have not notified the team prior, we will have to wait for the refund to bounce back before we can refund you through a different method. This involves a lot of extra work and extra time to process not only for the team but also for you as you’ll have to call your bank, credit card company, etc to work this out. The team is not responsible for extended waits for refunds in instances where notification was not sent about changed payment method.
What happens if my tail doesn't fit?
You have 7 days from the time your tail is delivered to try on and inspect your tail. Please email the team within this time period if you have any issues or would like to process a return or exchange. Tails must be in new, unused condition with the tags still attached to be eligible for return. Misprint tails are final sale items and NOT eligible for return or exchange.
What if I need to cancel my order?
ALL canceled orders will incur a 10% restocking fee
My shipping address is wrong, what do I do?
Please email info@finfolk.com with your order number and we will edit your address upon our return from the thanksgiving holiday on 11/27
My billing address is wrong, what do I do?
Unfortunately for security reasons we cannot change billing addresses after an order has been completed, but if your order was processed successfully (meaning you received an order confirmation email with an order number) it’s alright if your billing address isn’t correct.

What monofins will Merbella by Finfolk tails use?
There will be no changes here. For Signature tails, we recommend the Adult Mermaid Linden by Body Glove Monofin or the Finis Shooter. Discovery tails can only be used with the Adult Mermaid Linden by Body Glove Monofin. For ocean swimming, we recommend the FINIS shooter over the Adult Mermaid Linden monofin
Will Merbella be offering matching tops, crowns, and/or accessories?
Most likely, but this will be determined by the Merbella team. Keep an eye on Merbella’s social media for more information on this release. Finfolk will not be able to provide any info on their production schedule or release of matching products.

In short, color is VARIABLE! We don't limit our colors for silicone or fabric tails to just a handful. Raven’s masterful blending means even “simple” colorways are full of depth and subtle transitions. Different screens, screen settings (looking at you iphone Night Shift), glasses add-ins (like computer lenses), photo quality, lighting, environment, and editing can make a HUGE difference in these subtle color differences. Additionally, it’s not just our eyes that see – it’s our brains. We each see colors differently because of how our brains learn to link the signals they get from the eyes with the names of different colors. Many other things can affect how your brain sees color, including the season, what you look at before, or the position of your body.The BEST and truest photos of the colors of each tail are the official product photos posted by Finfolk.

We do our best to ship combined orders together but occasionally this is not possible due to box size. Please note when requesting to combine shipping, your order will not ship until ALL items in the order are ready to ship.
Due to limited studio space, we can NOT combine Merbella by Finfolk tail orders with previous tail orders or tail of the month orders.

There's a lot that goes into producing a fabric tail from ordering to shipping--creating printing and assembly production charts once a collection has been released, materials and time in printing, cutting, assembling, trimming, etc. so even though a tail might not be not fully complete, Finfolk reserves the right to implement a re-stocking fee for an cancelled fabric tail order no matter what stage of production it is in to make up for the hours of time and skill that that team has already put into creating a tail.

Please always type out your order number rather than sending a screenshot of your order. This cuts down on our email time significantly and ensures that our team can work as quickly and efficiently as possible. We will answer your email promptly, generally in 1-3 business days. Please be sensitive to business hours and the team’s day off. Please never PM Finfolk staff in regards to questions pertaining to the business.

What type of mermaid tails do you sell?
Currently, FinFolk Productions offers three types of swimmable mermaid tails:

2. Full sized fluke "Signature" Fabric tails (specific fin upgrades are available for certain designs, see product description for any and all fin upgrade options): Starting at $395
3. Beginner friendly "Discovery" Fabric tails (no customizations): $215

If you are a previous Finfolk client please and previously owned a neoprene finfolk fabric tail (any tail made before 2020) and have not purchased a tail since then, please review our in- house fabric tail size chart before making your tail purchase.

Do Finfolk tails come with monofins?
Silicone tails:
All silicone tails are outfitted with a FINIS trainer monofin in your size.
Signature Fabric tails:
Finfolk fabric tail purchases do not include a monofin. Our fabric tails have very large flukes and require a professional grade monofin with a larger stiff blade to provide a safe amount of propulsion. A lot of monofins in beginner tails are made for smaller flukes and are NOT powerful enough to create a safe amount of propulsion in our fabric tails with large full sized flukes and can become a safety risk if you try and swim in them.
It is tempting to use a cheaper beginner monofin or one that you already have but for your personal safety, we only recommend using the monofins that appear on our chart with a green check mark next to them.
Our #1 recommended monofin for our fabric tails is the FINIS shooter or Adult Mermaid Linden monofin by Bodyglove. Linden monofins can be purchased on our website here

Discovery Fabric tails:

Do Finfolk tails come with tops?
Silicone Tails:
Matching tops are not included in silicone tail orders but are available as an upgrade option.

Are upgrades/customizations/alterations available?
Silicone tails:
A silicone tail purchase includes custom measurements, basic paint scheme (colors are not limited to a certain number), and your choice of existing fluke. Extra fins, custom flukes, etc. are upgrade items and determined on an individual basis. Please email info@finfolk.com for upgrade pricing.
Signature Fabric Tails:
All tail designs are released in limited edition pre-made color collections. We do offer the option of adding additional decorative fins for most fabric tail designs but other upgrades and customization not available for fabric tails at this time. All fin upgrades can be found in the product listing for each specific tail
Fabric tails sizes are pre-made and are not available for any customization or alterations.
Discovery Fabric Tails:

My desired tail is sold out, what do I do?
Silicone tails:
Unfortunately, we are not currently taking new silicone tail orders. We have a long production list of silicone orders that we need to finish before accepting new ones. When we are able, we do list pre-made silicone tails in various sizes and designs on our website for those looking for a silicone tail without the wait. Fabric tails:
Collections are typically only produced once in large batches so we will not be re-stocking any tails from our previous collections again in a large batch anytime soon.
Our fabric tails are released on our website in limited edition collections on designated release days with a 12-16 week production time. We only allow for as many orders on a collection release day as well feel that we can produce in the 12-16 week production time so after we reach a certain number of orders, we close off all tail orders and all tails are marked as sold out until the next collection is released, we hope that helps clarify how ordering works and why current tails on the website are listed as sold out.
Our next release is currently estimated for spring 2023.
Our “Tail of the Month” program is a re-stock of a single beloved signature fabric tail design from a previous collection outside of new larger collections that gives customers the opportunity to purchase a tail of some kind outside of larger collections for upcoming trips or if they missed out on the design the first time it was released in previous years. All Tail of the month design will feature a Signature fabric tail as well as a Discovery fabric tail.
The tails of the month will be available beginning at the first of the month and will change every month as we move through the year and will be a way for us to re-release seasonal favorites as the year goes on without taking away from new tail collections.
All inventory from our past year of production is currently available in our "ready to ship" tab and will remain on the website until sold out. All tails on this page are overstock fabric tails and may only be available in select sizes/fin combinations. Due to the way our fabric tail production functions we cannot take orders for sizes/fin combinations of overstock tails of past designs that are sold out.
As with all of our previous releases and re-stocks, FinFolk Pod Squad members will receive advanced access to all new items.

What happened to Mythic Tails?
Mythic tails were our first step into the world of pre-made tails that allowed our business to grow past just individual custom tails, but now that our fabric tail production has evolved to fill this need, mythic tails have become more labor intensive and unsustainable than we would like. Therefore, in 2021 we decided to discontinue large scale mythic tail collections. At this point in our growth we would rather focus our creative energy and man power on our custom silicone tails and other projects that have gotten tabled due to mythic tail production while our fabric tails take the place of mythic tails as our more accessible tail option.
This isn't to say that we won't ever make mythic tails again but we will not be releasing large pre-sale collections again any time soon. If we do offer mythic tails again, they will be a pre-made/ready to ship item or a pre-sale collection with very very limited quantities. We understand that this might be disappointing to those looking to purchase a customized mythic tail right now but the decision to discontinue pre-sale mythic tail collections is what is best for the well being and sustainability of our company and we appreciate your understanding!

Will my order arrive in time for Christmas?
We know this season is the time of giving and while we will do our best to ensure each purchase is shipped in a timely manner in accordance with each items listed assembly or pre-sale production time, there are certain items that will have longer processing/shipping times.
For ready-to-ship items (items without without a Pre-Sale disclaimer) our typical processing time is 7-10 business days. This includes apparel, stickers, scales, tail bags, and ready to ship Discovery tails.
Expedited shipping methods will not increase processing time.
If you are purchasing a pre-sale item such as a pre-sale tail, please keep the estimated production time stated on the web listing in mind.

My order has shipped but my tracking hasn't updated while in-transit, what's going on?
Due to the increase in holiday packages, the postal service and private couriers may experince longer than normal transit time or may skip tracking scans skipped with few tracking updates before an item is delivered.
Unfortunately, we do not have any control or access to more detailed tracking information or any other updates other than what is provided to customers via the carrier tracking website while orders are in-transit. You'll need to contact your carrier to see if they can provide any additional information.
Please keep in mind that most shipping carriers will not consider a package lost until a month after tracking has last updated and therefore the team will be unable to contact postal carriers regarding a lost package until a month after the last tracking update. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

Will my tail arrive before ____ event?
Pre-sale Items:
In regards to pre-sale items such as pre-sale tails or tops, we generally don't recommend scheduling mermaid trips, photo shoots, or events before our customers have their orders in their possession because of how wide the delivery window is for certain pre-sale items as well as nature of pre-sale items being subject to delays due to supply chain delays, staffing shortages, etc.
Ready-to-ship items:
Please keep in mind that there is a 7-10 day processing time for any item regardless of selected shipping method. As a society, we have come to expect lightning fast shipping times put in place by many large online retailers but are a very small team here at Finfolk productions and require a more "human" processing time. If you have a certain deadline, please email the team at info@finfolk.com and we will see what we can do about expediting your order.

Who are we?
FinFolk Productions was founded by twin sisters Abby & Bryn Roberts in 2012 and specializes exclusively in realistic, fully swimmable mermaid tails and accessories. We have since expanded to a staff of 7 full time team members and though we may be small, we are mighty!
We are well established within the mermaid performance community, and have provided countless tails for clients worldwide. Our tail making techniques are unique and exclusive to our company, and we can guarantee the highest quality tails on the market.

All items labeled "Ready to Ship" will ship within 7-10 business days. If you have a certain deadline, please email the team at info@finfolk.com and we will see what we can do about expediting your order.

If your ready to ship item was placed in the same order as a pre-sale item, the ready to ship item will not ship separately unless otherwise requested due to additional shipping fees that separating combined orders will incur. All ready to ship items that are placed in the same order as a pre-sale item will not ship until the pre-sale item is ready to ship.

Pre-sale production times may vary depending on the item. Please check your the respective web listing for any pre-sale information.

Unfortunately, we don't have any control or access to re-delivery options after a package has departed the studio. We also do not have access to further tracking information other than the updates provided in the tracking number.
You'll need to contact your local post office (or UPS store if your item is arriving via UPS) and arrange a re-delivery or pick up of your package.
If you cannot reach your courier, please make sure to contact us within 7 days of a failed delivery if your package is missing or was not delivered correctly.
Finfolk Productions is not liable for additonal shipping costs assocated with failed deliery of a package due to courier issues.
Changing mailing address (If order has NOT shipped)
Please email info@finfolk.com with your address change request. Since address changes are a time sensitive matter, please include “URGENT: ADDRESS CHANGE FOR ORDER #______” or something similar along those lines to make it easy for us to address time-sensitive emails.
Please always include your order number and new address when inquiring about an address change to expedite the process. Finfolk Productions is not liable for failure to change address if all information is not present before item ships.
If selling a tail to another receipent before it ships, address changes will incur a $35 change fee
Changing mailing address: If your order has shipped and is in-transit (not including items in pre-shipment)
If your order has already shipped to the wrong address, it is in the hands of the shipping provider and we are unable to change it from our end. Please contact your respective shipping provider to change your address. Contacting us about a wrong address after an item has shipped will not render a solution unless directly instructed by the shipping provider.
Selling a tail before it ships
For many years we have allowed folks to sell tails and other orders that have not shipped to give those who may have missed out on a tail a chance to own their dream design as well as give original buyers the option to re-home a tail for a variety of reasons. In order to keep offering this option as our company grows we have a couple of reminders and changes to our policy of selling tails that have not shipped.
- There is a $35 fee for changing addresses if transferring the ownership of an order. Change fees must be paid within 30 days of receiving your invoice.
- Only the shipping address in the order will change. All contact information will remain the same so the shipping notification and all other order updates will be sent to the original email on file.
- If there is additional shipping incurred due to the change in address, the original buyer will be responsible for these charges and an invoice will be sent to the original email on file for the order.
- We will only communicate with the original buyer regarding an order. Original buyers are welcome to CC the new buyer in any email communication so they stay in the loop but we will not be able to provide order updates, sizing changes, or other order specific information to a third party.
- Size changes are only avilable for pre-order tails while orders in production are permitted within 30 days and requests must come from the original buyer.
- There is a $35 fee for changing sizes while orders are in production regardless of what stage of production an order is in. Change fees must be paid within 30 days of receiving your invoice.
- Size exchanges for pre-orders tails are offered within 7 days of delivery but are only eligible if you are the original buyer of an order. We will not be offering size exchanges after a tail is delivered for orders sold to another mer prior to shipping.
Finally, the Finfolk team does not get involved with third party sales or the sale of items between members of the community for liability reasons. Selling an order and changing the address is done at the customer's own risk.
Customs Fees
If you're an international customer, please review your countries customs and import fees policy BEFORE purchasing. Mermaid tails are a very large and expensive item and can accumulate large customs fees in certain countries. Customs and Import charges are the sole responsibility of the customer, and in the event that customs charges are not taken care of, the customer is solely responsible for any additional return/re-shipping charges that accumulate as a result of a returned package and are non-refundable.
For international orders, your customs documents will be printed directly from your order and cannot be altered in any way. All tails are classified as "merchandise" on customs forms.Will choosing an expedited shipping option make my order ship faster?

Combining orders
Apparel items such as leggings, sports bras, shirts, backpacks, etc ship directly from our manufacturer in California thus we cannot combine shipping with tails.
Mermaid tails, adult linden monofins, sticker, scale, and tops ship from our studio in North Carolina and can be combined to ship together. If you would like to combine your shipping, please email the team at info@finfolk.com with both order numbers to combine.
We do our best to ship combined orders together but occasionally this is not possible due to box size, because one item is ready far before the other, or a variation of other circumstances and we cannot guarantee combinations for separately purchased items.
Seperate International orders with a combined value over $2,500 may not be combined together due to international trade laws.
Fabric tails from one seasonal collection may not be combined with fabric tails from another collection or tails of the months.
Is there a rush option for mermaid tails?
Cancellations
Order cancellations
There is a 10% restocking fee for any cancelled order that will be deducted from your total refund upon processing. Please review your cart including sizes, colors, etc. before final check out.
Cancelled orders are subject to a re-stocking fee no matter what stage of production your order is in to compensate our staff for the time it takes to process an order cancelation.
We can cancel any order at any point as long as it has not shipped. If your item as been shipped and is in transit it cannot be cancelled. If you would still like to cancel your item after it has shipped, you may refuse the package upon delivery and it will be sent back to us for a return/refund.
Our apparel items are made to order and once in production cannot be canceled even if they haven't shipped yet. If this should occur, you are welcome to return your item once it arrives but it will be handled as a regular return instead of a canceled item. Please visit the returns section of our Help Center for more inforamtion on returning an order.
Cancelled payment methods
If you desired to cancel an order or are waiting for a refund (see return/refund section) and can no longer access a card used to place an order, please email the team at info@finfolk.com asap so that we can make a note of this in your order.
If a refund is processed for a card that is no longer valid and you have not notified the team prior, we will have to wait for the refund to bounce back before we can refund you through a different method. This involves a lot of extra work and extra time to process not only for the team but also for you as you’ll have to call your bank, credit card company, etc to work this out. The team is not responsible for extended waits for refunds in instances where notification was not sent about changed payment method.
Exchanges
Fabric Tails - Signature and Discovery
We understand that ordering online can be difficult when it comes to sizing. We have done our best to provide thorough size charts for all items but if your order arrives and doesn't fit as expected, please review our exchange policy below:
1. Tail must be in new condition with tags attached. Tails are not eligible for exchange if used in any way other than trying on for fit outside of the water.
2. Exchange inquiry must be sent within 7 days of receiving tail
3. Exchanges only eligible for tails purchased directly through Finfolk Productions.
We are estimating return tails will take approximately 4-6 weeks to ship out after original tail has been returned.

Apparel
Apparel includes any item on our site that is not a mermaid tail. Mermaid tops (excluding silicone tops), monofins, apparel, accessories, etc. are all classified as "apparel" items. Any apparel is eligible for exchange but is determined on an individual basis based on available stock. Please email info@finfolk.com with your order number an exchange request and we will proceed with the exchange pending inventory and item eligibility.

Due to the limited inventory of silicone tops we are unable to accommodate any type of exchange but we will accept your item back for return/refund within 7 days of top delivery.

Damages
Damaged Fabric Tails
Our fabric tails are constant work in progress as we find new ways to make our tails better with each new collection. Every Finfolk fabric tail is handmade and while manufacturing damages are unlikely, small imperfections may occur. We are always prepared for manufacturing issues to be a possibility and we are happy to address any concerns via email. Customers have 7 days to thoroughly inspect tails and email the team regarding any suspected misprint or defect. Each tail is thoroughly inspected prior to leaving the warehouse for any manufacturer error but occasionally manufacturing issues aren't evident upon visual inspection.
** Due stretchy nature of scuba knit fabric that some variance in stripe alignment along seams is to be completely expected and is not considered a manufacturing defect or misprint **
If you see any damage upon opening your tail, please email the team immediately at info@finfolk.com
If you suspect your tail is damaged upon delivery, DO NOT use the tail in any way other than trying it on in a dry setting for fit. Damaged tails are only eligible for return, exchange, and/or full refund if they are in NEW and unused condition with tags attached.

If your tail contains a misprint, in order to process a misprint as a return, the tail must be unused and with the tags still attached. Pictures of any suspected misprint must be sent prior to use with the tail in new, unused condition.

Fabric Tail Wear and Tear
As tails are used and exposed to sand, pool walls/bottoms, aquarium decorations, rocks, fingernails, and all sorts of abrasive environmental factors, as well as different types of chemicals in pools, it's possible that your tail will experince wear and tear. Wear and tear includes but is not limited to scuffs, fiber pilling, holes, seam popping, loss of fabric elastiticty over time, etc.
Wear is tail is an unavoidable part of owning any type of garment whether it be clothing, bathing suits, wetsuits, or mermaid tails. As your tail is loved and used on rough surfaces, it will eventually wear no matter how well constructed or what the price point is. Please review our care sheet included in every tail package prior to using your tail for many tips and tricks on how to increase the lifespan of your Finfolk team
Misprints Fabric tails
Even with with switch to in-house production we will occasionally end up with misprint tails, tails with a cosmetic imperfection. Misprinted tails are pulled from prodction and finished as we are able after completing pre-order tails to list on our website on a designated time and date.
Customers have 7 days to thoroughly inspect tails and email the team regarding any suspected misprint or defect. Your email should include the order number and pictures of the misprint.
Please be aware that fabric tails handmade items and some variance in stripe alignment along seams is to be completely expected.
Each tail is thoroughly inspected prior to leaving the warehouse for any manufacturer error. As with any of our products, in order to process a misprint as a return, the tail must be unused and with the tags still attached. Pictures of any suspected misprint must be sent prior to use with the tail in new, unused condition.

Damaged Apparel Items
Our apparel is made to order by our awesome apparel manufacturer based in California that has a couple of fulfillment centers around the world based on where customers are located. While there are many benefits to having apparel made by a larger outside company such as a wider variety of items, designs, short manufacturing times, etc. that our small team wouldn't be able to sustain in-house on top of tail production, one of the drawbacks is not having full quality control over apparel from start to finish as we do with our in-house made items.
If you suspect your apparel to be damaged upon arrival, please email the team at info@finfolk.com to open a damage inquiry.

All return inquiries must be sent within 7 days of receiving your tail. If we have not replied to a return request sent within the 7-day return window, the 7-day return window starts the day you receive a reply.

Refunds
Refunds
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund.
If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your original method of payment within a few business days.
Refunds may take longer if processed during a weekend or bank holiday.
If you original method of payment has been cancelled, please notify the team BEFORE requesting a return for refund. More information on cancelled payment methods can be found under "cancellations"
You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable EXCEPT in cases of a damaged item upon delivery in which case we are happy to refund shipping. If you receive a refund, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund.
Late or missing refunds (if applicable):
If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again after a few days especially if refund was processed during the weekend or on a bank holiday. Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. Next, contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted.

Partial Refunds
There are certain situations where only partial refunds are granted:
-Tails with obvious signs of use
-Any item not in its original condition, is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error.
Sale Items
If applicable, sale Items will be refunded at the original purchase price.

The Pod Squad is a branch of the Finfolk family launched in 2017 to help fund the move into our new permanent warehouse space. Since its founding, the Pod Squad has grown into a Facebook-based community where members can discuss all things Finfolk, share their Finfolk gear, and build friendships with other Finfolk lovers. With the help of our Pod Squad members, we moved into our warehouse home in October 2018. Contributions through Pod Squad purchases continue to help us grow and develop in our new warehouse space to increase efficiency and develop the new and amazing mermaid treasures for you all.
Squad members will receive exclusive merchandise deals, behind the scenes glimpses, sneak peeks, and priority updates about the warehouse space and production timelines. Finfolk Pod Squad members will be sent an invite to a secret Facebook group, where we will post updates about special offers, exclusive discounts, and more POD SQUAD MEMBERS WILL RECEIVE PRIORITY ACCESS TO THE PRESALE OF ALL NEW PRODUCTS.
How do I become a member?
- Purchase your Pod Squad membership from our website.
- Instructions on how to join the secret pod squad membership Facebook group will be sent to your email address. Please follow the link in your email to the Facebook group and request to join.
- When prompted, enter your 5 digit order number. You can find your order number in your original order confirmation email.
- An admin will accept your request within one business day.
If you do not receive instructions within 10 minutes of purchasing your Pod Squad membership, please email info@finfolk.com and we will gladly assist you.
What constitutes a membership?
Purchasing tails, tops, accessories, or apparel items do not constitute a pod squad membership. Purchasing Pod Squad apparel, merchandise, or a single brick purchase also do not constitute a membership.
All listings that include a membership will say so in the description so please read each item carefully.
What kind of discounts or promotions will Pod members receive?
The Finfolk Pod Squad is a VIP membership group where staff members share never before seen sneak peeks of new and upcoming items, grant advanced access to new collection releases to members, participate in various giveaways, naming contests, and also where we share exclusive pod squad flash sale codes when they're offered.
There is no permanent discount code for new or existing pod squad members, all discounts are shared via the Facebook group on rotation such as free shipping, a percentage off certain items in the store, etc.
How do I receive Pod Squad Membership benefit notifications?
All pod squad benefits such as sneak peeks of new products, flash sale codes, and the early access codes to unlock our website on a collection release day will be posted in the private Facebook group, we do not share pod squad discounts or special offers via email or personal notification.
It is the responsibility of members to check the group regularly for newly released pod squad benefits, all important information will be pinned as an announcement at the very top of the group. Finfolk does not assume or take on any liability for pod squad members missing out on time sensitive information due to failure to check the group.
Is the Pod Squad membership fee annual?
Nope! The Pod Squad membership fee is a one-time fee.
Is my Pod Squad membership refundable?
How do I use my Pod Squad membership to gain early access to new products?
We generally announce the date and time of a new product release at least a week in advance but it is up to members to stay updated about sale dates and time so please make sure you're checking the pod squad group regularly.
Traditionally, Pod Squad members will have 1 hour advanced access before we open up our site to the public.
On sale/product release days, we will lock our website a few hours in advance to add new items and you will need a password to access the site, this is how we ensure that pod squad members are the only ones that are able to access the site during the first hour of any sale.
At the designated time, an admin will post the website password in a "pinned" announcement post at the top of the Pod Squad page. Once we post the code, open up our website, www.finfolk.com, and input the access code when prompted (it will be locked and will ask for a password right away in the top right hand corner). After entering the site, select your desired item and check out!
Can I leave and re-join the pod squad
Finfolk Productions allows a one time grace exit/re-entry to the pod squad group with a pod squad membership purchase. Please be 100% of your decision to leave the group before proceeding.
If you leave the group more than once you will be required to purchase another membership to be re-added to the pod squad facebook group.
Will joining the Pod Squad guarantee that I get my desired item l on the next release day?
While joining the Pod Squad will not guarantee that you will get your desired item during the next release, it does give you a much higher chance because there is a much smaller pool of people purchasing during the pod squad hour vs. when we open our site to the public following the advanced Pod Squad hour.
If you are present in the group when a new item is released to the pod squad, follow directions to enter the site, and are swift in purchasing your items, it is highly unlikely that you will miss out on your desired item unless it is a very very limited item such as a silicone mermaid top with only a couple available.
Product Re-stocking
Can I pre-order or reserve an item that is out of stock?
We do not take on private pre-orders or reservations for tails, tops, or any item after they’re sold out so it is essential that a potential buyer is aware of the next re-stocking date so that they may be as prepared as possible for the next release.

Fabric tails from previous collections
All Finfolk Fabric tails are released in limited edition collections. We typically do not repeat entire collections or designs after they are sold out but it's possible that we will bring back seasonal favorites in limited quantities.
All inventory from our past year of production is currently available in our "ready to ship" tab and will remain on the website until sold out. All tails on this page are overstock fabric tails and may only be available in select sizes/fin combinations. Due to the way our fabric tail production functions we cannot take orders for sizes/fin combinations of overstock tails of past designs that are sold out.
Our “Tail of the Month” program is a re-stock of a single beloved tail design from a previous collection outside of new larger collections that gives customers the opportunity to purchase a tail of some kind outside of larger collections for upcoming trips or if they missed out on the design the first time it was released in previous years.

Misprint Fabric Tails
Misprint tails are tails from past or current tail collections that arrived from our previous tail manufacturer (pre 2020) with a flaw of some kind.
Now that we are making tails entirely in-house and will have better control over the printing and sewing of each tail to catch misprints before they are made into full tails, we are expecting to have very few that will only be available for purchase as we are able to complete them without taking away from pre-order tail production.
On this past Small Business Saturday we listed misprint tails from the last year of in-house production so any extras or misprints from our current production moving forward will likely be stored until a designated time and date.

Mythic tails
Mythic tails were our first step into the world of pre-made tails that allowed our business to grow past just individual custom tails but now that our fabric tail production has evolved to fill this need, mythic tails have become more labor intensive and unsustainable than we would like and therefore earlier this spring, we decided to discontinue large scale mythic tails collections.
At this point in our growth we would rather focus our creative energy and man power on our custom silicone tails and other projects that have gotten tabled due to mythic tail production while our fabric tails take the place of mythic tails as our more accessible tail option.
This isn't to say that we won't ever make mythic tails again but we will not be releasing large pre-sale collections again any time soon. If we do offer mythic tails again, they will be a pre-made/ready to ship item or a pre-sale collection with very very limited quantities. We understand that this might be disappointing to those looking to purchase a customized mythic tail right now but the decision to discontinue pre-sale mythic tail collections is what is best for the well being and sustainability of our company and we appreciate your understanding!

Silicone Tails
We love making custom silicone tails however we have spent the last couple of years playing catch up on silicone tail production while other parts of our business grow so custom silicone tail ordering is closed for now. We have a long production list of silicone orders that we need to finish before accepting new ones. When we do open up slots for silicone tails which will be later this year at the very earliest, we will only accept 1-3 orders at a time on an application basis to ensure that we are completing tails in a timely manner and not building up a never ending wait list.

Scales
We typically re-stock mythic scales every few months when we are able but as with all limited edition items, we cannot guarantee constant stock of popular scale colors.
Replacement scales for the discontinued Kariel by Finfolk mythic tail collection (Glimmer, Lagoon, Lokelani Rose, and Manta) are currently available upon request for customers that own discontinued Kariel by finfolk mythic tails only.
Information regarding which scales appear on certain mythic tails can be found on our mythic scale color chart under "visual resources" at the bottom of the help center.

Silicone tops are hand crafted limited editions items which we list on our website in 2 different ways, pre-order tops and pre-made tops.
Pre-order tops are top slots that have yet to be made that we offer in a wide range of colors and styles to match our previous and current tail designs. Pre-order silicone top are closed right now so the team can focus on other aspects of production such as custom silicone tail orders. We aren't sure when we will open pre-sale orders again as it will be heavily dependent on how quickly the team moves through other tail production.
Pre-made tops are typically one of a kind tops that are listed on our website for immediate purchase/shipping without the wait time of pre-order tops. We will likely have pre-made silicone tops of various styles and colorations available for purchase within the next few months as we are able to match previous or current fabric tail designs.

Knock-Off Finfolk tails
What do you mean knock-off tails?
Every Finfolk silicone tail is completely hand crafted and one of a kind, with 60+ hours of work and love put into each one of them to ensure that our mers have a completely unique and personalized tail dream tail. No two Finfolk silicone tails have ever been created exactly alike!
Since the summer of 2017, we have noticed numerous platforms such as wish, Alibaba, bonanza, and even Amazon selling illegal fabric copies of custom FinFolk silicone tails. FinFolk is the largest target for these counterfeiters but some of our fellow tail makers have also fallen victim to this piracy. These knock-off tails often feature photos of our tails with our watermark photoshopped or cropped out taken directly from our social media with a mind mind bogglingly low price.
How is this happening?
All of these vendors are likely buying their stock from the same several companies in China that have been responsible for printing and distributing these knock-off tails. These companies photos of our tails off our social media platforms and print pixelated copies of the photo on to cheap spandex to sell to online e-commerce platforms.
The counterfeiting industry is a very large and tough industry to control and large cosmetics, fashion, and tech companies spend millions of dollars every year shutting down counterfeiting operations with new ones popping up all the time. As a small business, FinFolk does not have the resources to go after counterfeiting manufacturers especially given that these counterfeiters do not recognize international copyright laws.
What is being done to stop it?
We've started photographing silicone tails from an angle, watermarking over tails, and taking other protective measures when posting photos of tails so that they're harder for the thieves to download and print but we've even seen instances of the counterfeiters editing out watermarks that were covering an entire portion of a tails and warping/cloning in photo editing programs to make a photo printable so there's no telling how far we will have to go to protect our art.
The major reason behind developing our own fabric tail line was to give people a legitimate and affordable finfolk fabric tail option instead of resorting to buying an illegal fabric copy of a custom tail made for a client who invested in a one-of-a-kind tail just for them.
How can I help?
The best way to shut down these companies is to not support them-- if no one buys their product they will stop making them. Unfortunately, since the low price is very appealing and not many people know what's going on it's a difficult battle.
We strongly encourage people in the community to share about this issue on their personal Facebook pages, and for those who have other media platforms such as mermaid facebook pages, youtube channels, etc. that they also talk about it on those platforms and of course report the seller/account whenever possible. Maybe one-day FinFolk will be large enough to combat these knock-off manufacturers but for now, we're a small team and will be relying on our supporters to help spread awareness about this issue.

Finfolk signature fabric tails are designed to be the most beautiful, realistic fabric mermaid tails available today! Our swimmable signature fabric tails are created from a high quality scuba knit, with sublimation printed designs that are realistically detailed and vibrant. Featuring highly desired, full sized Finfolk flukes and extra decorative fin options, all fabric tails come with a durable vinyl monofin casing built inside of the tail. Monofins are easily installed, and rest inside of the casing, providing graceful flow and movement in the water. These tails will fit a variety of monofins up to the dimensions listed below. We recommend monofins with short, stiff blades such as the FINIS Shooter monofin or the Adult Mermaid Linden monofin by Bodyglove.

This product is to be used with a professional quality monofin by adult proficient swimmers only. Quality of monofin will affect quality of use. Recommended monofin for use is the Finis Shooter Monofin or Mermaid Linden monofin by Bodyglove.

Injury or death may occur with improper use. Always follow common sense swimming practices with use of this product. Do not swim alone, or in bodies of water too deep or too hazardous for your abilities. Always swim in lifeguarded areas.
Due to nature of sizing, design, and construction of these hand made items, very slight aesthetic differences may occur in smaller vs. larger sizes. Please email us at info@finfolk.com if you have any further questions.
Please be aware that due to the stetchy nature of scuba knit fabric that some variance in stripe alignment along seams is to be completely expected. Each tail is thoroughly inspected prior to leaving the warehouse for any manufacturer error.
WARRANTY: In the event of a manufacturer defect or other issue, the refund policy on this product is as follows: Item may be evenly exchanged or returned for store credit within seven days.
In-house made Signature fabric tail improvements
There have been some changes in fabric tail production since the beginning of Finfolk fabric tails back in 2017. In 2020, we made the decision to move to fully producing our fabric tails in-house, so as to have better control over sizing and construction quality, quantity, and timelines. This is obviously a very exciting transition for us and we are SO excited to bring our fabric line to the next level, and produce the highest quality Finfolk tails that you know and love.
1. We switched to a high-quality scuba knit vs. pre-2020 neoprene which not only provides the stretch factor that was lacking in our pre-2020 neoprene tails but is also is much softer and more comfortable. This scuba knit fabric does not hold water like traditional neoprene which eliminates the needs for drainage holes entirely and significantly cuts down on drag. Scuba Knit is also less buoyant than traditional neoprene and will reduce swimmer buoyancy in the water.
2. Vinyl casings no longer have plastic casing screws but rather slits for wide strips of velcro. This switch reduces the damage caused by the screws rubbing holes in the fabric and/or popping out and getting lost in natural environments.
3. We switched to a wider elastic in the waistband that will be a little more flattering on the waistline than the thinner elastic used in previous tails.
4. Our zippers are longer allowing for slightly wider monofins to be used inside our tails such as the Linden by Body Glove monofin which has been highly requested and for an easier time removing the two part vinyl monofin casing for drying without stressing the stitching around the zipper.
4. All tails are printed, sewn, and inspected in-house which means no more misprints, cut corners, mislabeling, etc. that we dealt with in previous batches made by a third party tail manufacturer.
These tails are more vibrant than ever more closely resembling the painted silicone base they are created from.

The monofin casing is an important part of your tail as it gives the fluke (bottom fin area) a rigid shape in the water and should be kept inside your tail during use but can be removed for drying (see care sheet). To install a monofin in your tail, slide the monofin between the two pieces of the vinyl casing. You will notice two velcro slits with heavy duty velcro in your vinyl monofin casing and a several other empty velcro slits. These Velcro slits are used to stabilize monofins of various sizes while swimming but are not required for use on dry land. If using a smaller monofin such as the FINIS foil or shooter, we recommend installing the velcro in every slot to anchor your monofin in place. If using a larger monofin that covers some of the slots such as the mermaid linden monofin, we recommend removing those particular velcro pieces for proper fitting
If your chosen monofin sits lower in the casing and the edge of the vinyl rubs against your feet/ankles, you may trim the top of the front piece of the casing with scissors to desired height to eliminate discomfort when worn.

Can I swim in my Finfolk Signature fabric tail?
Absolutely! Every tail made by FinFolk Productions is meant to be used in the water. Before you take your first swim, you will need to purchase a monofin.
Signature Finfolk fabric tails do not come with a monofin as there are several monofins on the market that will work with our tails that may tailor to each customers fit preferences. When it comes to monofins, we prefer to give our customers a choice to purchase a variety of third party monofins based on individual preference rather than making our signature tails to fit one single type of monofin.

Finfolk Signature fabric tails are to be used with a monofin by proficient swimmers only. Quality of monofin will affect quality of use. Injury or death may occur with improper use. Always follow common sense swimming practices with use of this product. Do not swim alone, or in bodies of water too deep or too hazardous for your abilities. Always swim in lifeguarded areas. If under the age of 18, always swim with an adult over the age of 18. If over the age of 18, still always swim with an adult over the age of 18.
Sizing for OLD (pre-2020) signature fabric tails bought second hand
We no longer offer traditional neoprene signature tails with limited stretch on any tail listed on the website after July 2020.

How to find your size
Our signature fabric tails come in sizes XS- 5XL (again, size charts can be found in the photo section of every fabric tail listing as well as in our Help Center-- simply search "fabric tail size chart" and sizes 6XL and up are available upon request).
In 2020, we made the decision to move to fully producing our fabric tails in-house, so as to have better control over sizing and construction quality, quantity, and timelines. With these new in-house made tails, we switched to a stretchier scuba knit fabric vs. the traditional neoprene that our previous fabric tail collections (pre- 2020) were made out of.
With the switch to the stretchier fabric in 2020 our size chart changed to accurately reflect the amount of stretch each size has. If you are a previous Finfolk client please and previously owned a neoprene finfolk fabric tail (any tail made before 2020) please review our in-house fabric tail size chart before making your tail purchase.
How to choose your size:
Where to measure:
Waist (where you'd like the tail to hit on your torso)
Hips/butt (around the widest part, typically right around the pelvic bone)
Length (from floor to where you'd like you tail to hit on your torso)
2. Choose the size that is closest to your smallest measurement and make to size DOWN if in between sizes. For example, if your waist measures for a small and your hips measure for a medium, choose the small.
Our tails have vertical stretch as well as horizontal stretch so don't worry taller mers, if the length of any given size is a bit short, they do have a few extra inches of vertical stretch.
My signature fabric tail seems longer/taller than my discovery tail?
Our signature and discovery tails are printed exactly to size with the same body pattern for both styles of tails however there are slight differences in the length of signature tails vs. discovery tails of the same size due to the following:
The length difference between Discovery tails and Signature tails is a direct result of where the body sits on the fluke in Discovery tails vs. Signature tails. Our signature tails have a much larger fluke which requires an area of graduated scales towards the bottom of the tail to connect the narrow ankle area to the wider area at the top of the fluke without looking like two separate pieces which leads to added length and unfortunately is an unavoidable nature of offering fabric tails with such large flukes. Discovery tails have a much narrower fluke and therefore there isn't a need for that graduated section where the body of the tail meets the fluke.
There are a couple of other things that can affect the length of signature tails that aren't related to the above information:
1. Whether or not you're wearing a monofin inside your tail when trying it on can affect the length of the tail. When you try on a tail without a monofin, your feet tend to sit much lower down inside the vinyl casing causing the body of the tail to sit much higher than it should.
2. Wearing your monofin too low inside the vinyl casing. When installing a monofin inside your signature tail, the very top of the vinyl casing pieces should hit just below the edge of the foot pockets around the ankles. If the edge of the vinyl is hitting your ankles your monofin is sitting too low down inside the casing and will result in the tail seeming much taller.
3. One thing we've seen a few times from customers is the vertical overstretching of a fabric tail when putting it on that results in a tail seeming a lot taller than it is. Imagine putting on a pair of leggings or pantyhose that are made of stretch material. In the process of pulling stretch fabric up and over the body, it can vertically over stretch and seem taller. Many mers find that they have to "unstretch" a tail and pull it back down little by little starting at the very bottom and working their way up to scoot the entirety of the tail down after pulling the tail over the hips/butt where the fabric stretches the most.
But what color is this tail actually?
In short, color is VARIABLE! We don't limit our colors for silicone or fabric tails to just a handful. Abby's masterful blending means even “simple” colorways are full of depth and subtle transitions. Different screens, screen settings (looking at you, iphone Night Shift), glasses add-ins (like computer lenses), photo quality, lighting, and editing can make a HUGE difference in these subtle color differences. Additionally, it’s not just our eyes that see – it’s our brains. We each see colors differently because of how our brains learn to link the signals they get from the eyes with the names of different colors. Many other things can affect how your brain sees color, including the season, what you look at before, or the position of your body. The BEST and truest photos of the colors of each tail are the official product photos posted by Finfolk that are taken outdoors in soft overcast lighting.
Can my tail size be altered during production?
Fabric tails sizes are pre-made and are not available for any customization or alterations.
You may have your tail tailored by a local seamstress upon delivery to your desired measurements just like any other ready to wear garment that may require hemming, tailor, and other alterations for a perfect fit.
Can I buy a signature fabric tail with fin combinations that do not appear in the website listing?
Can I customize/design my own Finfolk signature fabric tail?
All fabric tail designs are released in limited edition pre-made color collections with most having additional fin upgrade options. Any and all fin upgrade options are stated in the product listing for each signature fabric tail but cannot be changed or altered other than what is listed in the product description.
We do not take on fully custom signature fabric tail orders at this time.
Monofins for signature fabric tails
Our signature fabric tails will work with a variety of monofins from many different brands but not all monofins are created equal.
Our signature fabric tails have very large flukes and require a professional grade monofin with a larger stiff blade to provide a safe amount of propulsion.
A lot of monofins in beginner tails are made for smaller flukes and are NOT powerful enough to create a safe amount of propulsion in our signature fabric tails and can become a safety risk if used inside them. The same goes for pure silicone monofins, they do not provide enough propulsion and can be a safety hazard when used inside our fabric tails.
It is tempting to use a cheaper beginner monofin or one that you already have but for your personal safety, we only recommend using the monofins that appear on our chart with a green check mark next to them or that fit the safety criteria above.
Monofins to avoid: Children’s monofins, beginner monofins for adults that are smaller in size and not for use for professional freediving, pure soft rubber or silicone monofins.
Our #1 recommended monofin for our fabric tails is the FINIS shooter or the Adult Mermaid Linden monofin by Bodyglove. There are several other monofins from other companies that our customers use with their Finfolk signature tails but the staff have only used the monofins mentioned above regularly and therefore those are the ones we know for sure will give you a fun and safe swim without any moficiation to the monofin or tail.

There are a few monofins that we know folks have enjoyed using in their fabric signature tails that do not appear on our recommended list such as the FINIS Wave as they will not fit in every fluke shape without modification.
If you're thinking of using a different monofin other than the three listed under our reccommended monofins, review your signature fabric tail's fluke dimensions and please compare the monofin you're considering purchasing with the requirements for use inside a Finfolk signature fabric tail-- a "professional grade monofin with a large stiff blade".
If purchasing a FINIS shooter monfin, please follow our FINIS size chart rather than the size charts listed on the FINIS website**
Monofin size chart is as follows:
- M: Shoe size 5-6
- L: Shoe size 7-8
- XL: 8 1/2- 9 1/2
- XXL: 10+
** After our staff members tested various sizes of the shooter, we feel as though the size chart for the shooter on the FINIS website isn't quite accurate to mermaid tail use and is tailored to freedivers instead of mermaids.
The reason the FINIS size chart runs big is because it is targeted towards free-divers and competitive swimmers who need their monofins super tight for them to stay on their feet at high speeds and depth.
For mermaid swimming, we prefer them to be a little looser so that you can slip your foot in and out of the monofin with ease especially since it is encased inside a tail where it can be hard to put on in the first place. Freedivers do not have their legs encased in a tail so if they need to remove their super tight monofin, it's a lot easier for them. Trying to remove a super tight monofin while navigating a mermaid tail skin that covers the monofin would be a lot more difficult and in some cases, a safety hazard, so buying a monofin where you can slip your feet in and out easily is better overall for mermaid swimming.

Choosing a monofin size for your signature fabric tail
Choose a monofin size that best correlates to your shoes size. If in-between sizes, size down for a snugger fit or size up for a looser fit that can be paired with neoprene socks for more foot protection. Sizing will also depend on your comfort preferences. Hannah: Wears U.S. women's 6 in heels and sandals and U.S. womens 7 in sneakers. Wears a size MEDIUM shooter/trainer monofin with neoprene half booties over the toe area. Wears the provided booties with her Mermaid Linden monofin.
Gracie: Wears U.S. women's 9.5 in heels and sneakers and wears a XXL shooter/trainer with full neoprene booties for more comfort in the toe area. Can wear the Adult mermaid linden monofin but due to her high arches, prefers the comfort of the XXL shooter.

Sizing for the Body Glove Adult Mermaid Linden Monofin: One size fits US Men – 6-11.5 ( US Women 4.5-13). Women’s shoe size 4.5-8 and Men’s size 6-7 fit comfortably wearing the neoprene socks provided inside the fin, while larger sizes do not require the socks.
Please keep in mind that foot shape, arch height, etc. may affect comfort of the mermaid linden monofin for those on the higher end of the size chart.

Do you make signature fabric tails for kids?
Short answer is not yet but we do plan on offering kids tails very soon!
Swimming as a mermaid is a great way to encourage kids to spend time in the water. A common misconception, however, is that mermaid tails are a swim aid or a toy like arm floaties and other pool toys. Mermaid tails are a piece of swimming equipment just like snorkel fins and should be used by confident swimmers under adult supervision.
We recommend that kids wait until they are at least 8 years old or are confident in the water to start swimming in a full mermaid tail (feet enclosed in a monofin with a tail skin contracting their legs).
Most mermaid tails that are marketed towards children have easy foot releases in case of emergency, and we do not offer that type of tail yet. All of our tails have professional grade monofins inside and are not made for children so, therefore, we do not make them for children or offer children's sizes.
Right now our signature fabric tails are for advanced swimmers and of course, parents know their children's swimming skills better than us but we advise against children under the age of 18 swimming in our current signature tails (teenagers might be ok in Discovery tails with the supervision of an adult) due to the size of our signature fabric tail flukes. Our fabric tails are fabric versions of our adult silicone tails--they have very large flukes (some spanning over 35 inches wide and require professional-grade monofins to safely swim in them.
Under every signature fabric tail listing is a photo of our signature fabric tail monofin chart. All of the monofins under "not recommended" are smaller kids monofins--this is because they are too small to give a safe amount of propulsion inside our large flukes.
We are hoping to release a kid-friendly line with smaller flukes and kid-friendly monofins within the next year. We would LOVE for kids to enjoy our fabric tails as well as adults since they are the most realistic fabric tails on the market. If you can't wait until we release our kids fabric tail line, we highly recommend Mermaid Linden's monofin and tail skin line! Her monofins and tail skins are the safest kids fins on the market.

Signature fabric tails are eligible for return exchange within 7 days of receiving your tail and must be in new condition other than trying on for fit outside of the water. Tail that have been swam in, even only once are NOT eligible for return.

Signature fabric tails are eligible for size exchange within 7 days of receiving your tail and must be in new condition other than trying on for fit outside of the water. Tail that have been swam in, even only once are NOT eligible for size exchange. Exchanges are estimated to take 4-6 weeks for completion following the return of the original tail.

Damages - signature fabric tails
As you might be aware, our signature fabric tails are a newer product and a constant work in progress as we find new ways to make our tails better with each new collection. Every Finfolk signature fabric tail is handmade and while damages are unlikely, small imperfections may occur. We are always prepared for manufacturing issues to be a possibility and we are happy to address any concerns via email. Customers have 7 days to thoroughly inspect tails and email the team regarding any suspected misprint or defect.
** Due stretchy nature of scuba knit fabric that some variance in stripe alignment along seams is to be completely expected and is not considered a manufacturing defect or misprint **
Each tail is thoroughly inspected prior to leaving the warehouse for any manufacturer error but occasionally manufacturing issues aren't evident upon visual inspection.

If you suspect your tail is damaged upon delivery, DO NOT use the tail in any way other than trying it on in a dry setting for fit. Damaged tails are only eligible for return, exchange and/or full refund if they are in NEW and unused condition with tags attached. Please keep in mind that manufacturing issues are different from normal wear and tear: As tails are used and exposed to sand, pool walls/bottoms, aquarium decorations, rocks, fingernails, and all sorts of abrasive environmental factors, it's possible that scuffs, fiber pilling, holes, seam popping, etc. will happen which is unfortunately an unavoidable part of owning any type of garment whether it be clothing, bathing suits, wetsuits, or mermaid tails. As your tail is loved and used on rough surfaces, it will eventually wear no matter how well constructed or what the price point is.
If your tail contains a misprint, in order to process a misprint as a return, the tail must be unused and with the tags still attached. Pictures of any suspected misprint must be sent prior to use with the tail in new, unused condition.

Re-stocking designs from current or previous signature tail collections
All Finfolk signaature fabric tails are released in limited edition collections. We typically do not repeat or re-stock designs after they are sold out in large quantities.
Any extra inventory from any past larger collection will also be released on our website on a designated date and time after all pre-sale orders are complete.
Our “Tail of the Month” program is a re-stock of a single beloved tail design from a previous collection outside of new larger collections that gives customers the opportunity to purchase a tail of some kind outside of larger collections for upcoming trips or if they missed out on the design the first time it was released in previous years.
The tail of the month will be available from the first of the month to the last day of the month and will change every month as we move through the year and will be a way for us to re-release seasonal favorites as the year goes on without taking away from new tail collections. Tails of the month will be available for purchase all month long unless we hit a point where we feel like we need to cap them in order to complete orders within the estimated production window

You may have your tail tailored by a local seamstress upon delivery to your desired measurements just like any other ready to wear garment that may require hemming, tailor, and other alterations for a perfect fit.

Do you make Discovery tails for kids?
Swimming as a mermaid is a great way to encourage kids to spend time in the water. A common misconception, however, is that mermaid tails are a swim aid or a toy like arm floaties and other pool toys. Mermaid tails are a piece of swimming equipment just like snorkel fins and should be used by confident swimmers under adult supervision.
We recommend that kids wait until they are at least 8 years old or are confident in the water to start swimming in a full mermaid tail (feet enclosed in a monofin with a tail skin contracting their legs).
Most mermaid tails that are marketed towards children have easy foot releases in case of emergency, and we do not offer that type of tail yet.
We are hoping to release a kid-friendly line with smaller flukes and kid-friendly monofins within the next year. We would LOVE for kids to enjoy our fabric tails as well as adults since they are the most realistic fabric tails on the market. If you can't wait until we release our kids fabric tail line, we highly recommend Mermaid Linden's monofin for practice before your child is ready for a full tail. Her monofins and tail skins are the safest kids fins on the market.

Our Discovery tails are only offered in adult sizes with an adult sized monofin right now, however confident teen swimmers who already wear junior size clothing and adult shoe sizes may comfortably use our discovery tails under the supervision of an adult
Discovery fabric tail payments
We accept all major credit and debit cards as well as PayPal payments.
Cash, check, wire transfers are not accepted.
We offer Shop Pay on eligible orders that allows customers to break the order up into 4 payments. This is only available for orders over $50 and $1000 and below shipping to United States addresses. Another option is to check-out Paypal financing options.
Payment options through Shop Pay Installments, are subject to an eligibility check and are provided by these lending partners. Options depend on your purchase amount, and a down payment may be required. Rates from 0%-36% APR. State notices to consumers may be viewed here.

Returns - Discovery Fabric tails
** ANY item with a final sale disclaimer including but not limited to misprinted tails, gift cards, and clearance items are not eligible for return. **
To be eligible for a return, your tail must be:
1. In "new" condition with tags attached.
2. In the mail no later than 7 days after delivery.
3. Including the original order form with a note stating the reason for return for our records
Failure to include order form will incur a 10% re-stocking fee that will be deducted from your total refund and delay refund due to the additional time required to locate order information. If you do not have the original order form, you may re-print it from your order confirmation email.

Upon returning an item, please email your return tracking info to info@finfolk.com. To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase. Tails returned suspected of use will only be refunded at 50% of purchase.
Shipping for return items:
You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable EXCEPT in cases of receiving a damaged item upon delivery, in which we will cover shipping up the original amount paid. Exchanges - Discovery fabric tails
We understand that ordering online can be difficult when it comes to sizing. We have done our best to provide thorough size charts for all items but if your order arrives and doesn't fit, please read our exchange policy below:
We are estimating return tails will take approximately 4-6 weeks to ship out.

Please include the following information when inquiring about an exchange:
1. Your order number
2. The size you will need in exchange
Once we receive your request we will provide you with exchange instructions via email.
We are only able to process size exchanges at this time. Exchanges may only be swapped for a different size of the same design.
Buyer will be responsible for return shipping and invoiced for shipping upon exchange tail completion.
Damages - Discovery fabric tails
Our Discovery fabric tails are a newer product and a constant work in progress as we find new ways to make our tails better with each new collection. Every Finfolk Discovery fabric tail is handmade and while damages are unlikely, small imperfections may occur. We are always prepared for manufacturing issues to be a possibility and we are happy to address any concerns via email. Customers have 7 days to thoroughly inspect tails and email the team regarding any suspected misprint or defect.
** Due stretchy nature of scuba knit fabric that some variance in stripe alignment along seams is to be completely expected and is not considered a manufacturing defect or misprint **
Each tail is thoroughly inspected prior to leaving the warehouse for any manufacturer error but occasionally manufacturing issues aren't evident upon visual inspection.
If you see any damage upon opening your tail, please email the team immediately at info@finfolk.com
If you suspect your tail is damaged upon delivery, DO NOT use the tail in any way other than trying it on in a dry setting for fit. Damaged tails are only eligible for return, excahnge, and/or full refund if they are in NEW and unused condition with tags attached. For more information, please refer to our return policy under “Returns”

Once we receive your request we will provide you with instructions and replacement options.
Please keep in mind that manufacturing issues are different from normal wear and tear: As tails are used and exposed to sand, pool walls/bottoms, aquarium decorations, rocks, fingernails, and all sorts of abrasive environmental factors, it's possible that scuffs, fiber pilling, holes, seam popping, etc. will happen which is unfortunately an unavoidable part of owning any type of garment whether it be clothing, bathing suits, wetsuits, or mermaid tails. As your tail is loved and used on rough surfaces, it will eventually wear no matter how well constructed or what the price point is, will experience wear and tear.
If your tail contains a misprint, in order to process a misprint as a return, the tail must be unused and with the tags still attached. Pictures of any suspected misprint must be sent prior to use with the tail in new, unused condition.

Re-stocking designs from previous Discovery tail collections
All Finfolk Discovery fabric tails are released in limited edition collections. We typically do not repeat or re-stock designs after they are sold out in large quantities.
Any extra inventory from any past larger collection will also be released on our website on a designated date and time after all pre-sale orders are complete.
Our “Tail of the Month” program is a re-stock of a single beloved tail design from a previous collection outside of new larger collections that gives customers the opportunity to purchase a tail of some kind outside of larger collections for upcoming trips or if they missed out on the design the first time it was released in previous years.
The tail of the month will be available from the first of the month to the last day of the month and will change every month as we move through the year and will be a way for us to re-release seasonal favorites as the year goes on without taking away from new tail collections. Tails of the month will be available for purchase all month long unless we hit a point where we feel like we need to cap them in order to complete orders within the estimated production window

These tails are 100% handmade. Slight variances in color and appearance are to be expected. Due to the nature of this product, occasional loss of scales is to be expected, which is why additional scales are provided at no extra cost. Why can't I buy a mythic tail anymore?
Mythic tails were our first step into the world of pre-made tails that allowed our business to grow past just individual custom tails but now that our fabric tail production has evolved to fill this need, mythic tails have become more labor intensive and unsustainable than we would like and therefore earlier this spring, we decided to discontinue large scale mythic tails collections. At this point in our growth we would rather focus our creative energy and man power on our custom silicone tails and other projects that have gotten tabled due to mythic tail production while our fabric tails take the place of mythic tails as our more accessible tail option. This isn't to say that we won't ever make mythic tails again but we will not be releasing large pre-sale collections again any time soon. If we do offer mythic tails again, they will be a pre-made/ready to ship item or a pre-sale collection with very very limited quantities. We understand that this might be disappointing to those looking to purchase a customized mythic tail right now but the decision to discontinue pre-sale mythic tail collections is what is best for the well being and sustainability of our company and we appreciate your understanding!

The iridescent coating on specific Mythic scales (namely the shades of red and black scales) can be sensitive to pool water with an improper balance or higher than normal concentration of water treatment chemicals such as chlorine. Please take care when using your mythic tail in public pools or any other indoor body of water that is treated with chemicals. If you're unsure of whether a certain pool will affect your mythic scales, try taking your own pool testing strips to test the water before swimming, or ask the staff if you can bring a water sample home and place one of your extra scales in the container for an hour or so. If the scale remains unchanged after an hour, the pool is safe for your mythic tail. If color changes occur, do not use your mythic tail in that respective pool.

Can I purchase parts of mythic tails such as just the fluke, body piece, or fins?
Can I purchase upgrades for older mythic tails?
We do occasionally offer upgrades for older mythic tails such as a full sized flukes and extra decorative fins that were not purchased with the tail originally, but we are currently not accepting mythic tails back for full fluke upgrades as our small team focuses on other aspects of studio production such as our silicone waitlist.
When we accepted orders for fluke upgrades in 2020, upgrades were listed at $1,200 for a full sized fluke upgrade but this cost may increase as we reasses supply costs, inflation, etc. All full fluke upgrades for past mythic tails are outfitted with a FINIS trainer monofin in your desired size.
The full fluke upgrade for previous mythic tails does NOT include extra fins. Extra fins can be purchased under the normal fin upgrade web listings AFTER purchasing your full fluke upgrade for previous mythic tail when we are accepting orders.
If you purchase separate fin upgrades after purchasing a full fluke upgrade for a previous mythic tail please email the team at info@finfolk.com so we can make sure your orders are combined in our system.
Right now, we do not allow the purchase of loose fins for older mythic tails and we do not accept older mythic tails back for the addition of fin upgrades without purchasing a full fluke upgrade from the website. Any fin purchase that is not connected to a new mythic tail purchase that is in production or a full fluke for previous mythic tail purchase will be automatically canceled/refunded. We are sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.
With these upgrades, we only detach the old fluke, attach the new fluke, and attach any fins purchased at the same time. We do not offer mythic repair services at this time. We do sometimes sell loose fins when we have extras left from production, however this are shipped to attach yourself.

1. Pure silicone tops: These tops are 100% dragonskin silicone and feature criss-crossing lycra straps that tie around stainless steel O-rings in the back to disperse pressure points and strain evenly.

2. Mythic scale tops (when available)
Available in USA sizes in A/B-DDD/F with bikini style ties around neck and back. Our mythic scale and fabric scale top sizes tend to run a little large for those with smaller rib cages.
Since our top cup sizes are the average size of a given U.S. cup size they have a larger cup than bras with smaller bands of the same cup size.
For example, a 32C has a smaller cup than a 34C which has a smaller cup than a 36C. We take the average cup size which is usually the cup size of the 36 or 38 band of any given cup size.
Our "C cup" mythic scale top has the same size cup as a 36C so folks who normally wear a 32C or 34C may find the "c up" too large and size down to an A/B cup.
If you wear a smaller band size, we recommend sizing down and if you wear a band size over a 38, we recommend sizing up.
You can always return it for a smaller or larger size within 30 days if we have a top to exchange it with. If we don't have a different exchange size, you may also return it for a refund if it is still in new condition!

Can I customize the color of my top?

Pure Silicone tops:
Pre-order top of all kinds are closed right now so the team can focus on other aspects of production such as custom silicone tail orders. We aren't sure when we will open pre-sale orders again as it will be heavily dependent on how quickly the team moves through other tail production.
We will likely have pre-made silicone tops of various styles and colorations available for purchase within the next few months as we are able and typically will list limited pre-made tops with new fabric tail designs during tail releases.
All updates and announcements will be made to the pod as well as on our social media platforms so make sure you're keeping an eye out!
Mythic scale tops:
Mythic scale tops have been on a hiatus but are expected to make a comeback in previous colors within the next year.
